I am not sure how you may have missed Ryan Birkland's art if you are you around PDX. If this is your first time hearing about him you must check him out at p:ear in the next couple weeks. You really should come out to First Thursday and see his great works. Great as is in some huge work as well as the "healthy energy" and "newlife" he gives to old windows and glass. I have only peaked at this show a bit though the window of P:EAR's new space. This iphone shot is just to remind you and me that on Thursday (or by March 28th) we must make time to stop by The Butters Gallery in Old Town Chinatown and check out Rob Douglas' show as it promises to be a great collection of this work. Mr. Douglas splits is between Sante Fe and Philadelphia (I was in both last fall ironically) . I really would really love to meet this guy and talk him into spending some quality time in Portland.You might also like Benjamin Long his work is so fun, cartoon-animal-plantlike and thought provoking. Nancy of OTCTNA will be there and she always has so many cool things to Buzz about! Sunday, March 1, 2009 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Oregon Nikkei Legacy Center for a Hinamatsuri (Girls' Day) reception and tea. Hinamatsuri is a Japanese holiday celebrating the happiness and prosperity of all the girls in the family. Girls are encouraged to dress in kimono at the reception. Ping Restaurant will open on Tuesday, February 17th.(Tonight!)
Hours of operation are 4pm to 10pm, Monday through Saturday. Ping Restaurant located at 102 NW 4th Avenue on the corner of NW 4th and Couch in Chinatown.
Sorry Jen and Michelle, they do not accept reservations. Three weeks ago Ping had a great VIP party for neighbors and business owners in Old Town Chinatown (OTCT).

Pancakes to Start The Day
Mmm Pancakes. Mother's Bistro & Bar might have the best pancakes for breakfast but how about Beef Pancakes? The Mandarin House (120 SW Ankeny, Upstairs) by the Skidmore Fountain is a great place for lunch. I have to get back to eating!

Yes We Can
Did you see the MLK march today? I did.
You should totally go to the Oregon Jewish Museum to see their current exhibit it called, "Yes We Can! Unlearning Discrimination in Oregon". The show will be up until March 29, 2009.
I hope you made some time today to reflect on Martin Luther King. About ten years ago I went to a peace retreat at FOR in Nyack, New York. I met some of most interesting people who knew Dr. King.
